4.2  Concepts in Using Cryptography

“Crypto” is the catchall term for cryptography, crypto-analysis and cryptology. If you’re looking for a break, and you are into creative avoidance, several folks have suggested the book Cryptonomicon394 as a nice fiction book to study this art. The term is based in the Greek language that translates to secret writing. If you’re looking to become a serious crypto geek, Bruce Schneier’s Applied Cryptography book is one to read from cover to cover.

In this section, we explore various possible benefits of using cryptography, including assuring confidentiality, assuring data integrity, secure authentication, assuring non-repudiation, and providing access control.
