Symmetric cryptography algorithms
use a shared secret key known to the sender and authorized
recipient of an encrypted message. The same key is used whether you
are encrypting or decrypting the document (thus the name, symmetric).
The key must be protected so that unauthorized personnel cant
use it to decrypt the document.
Symmetric encryption uses a shared secret key and (usually) a non-secret algorithm to perform the encryption and decryption.
The same key is used to encrypt and decrypt the message.
Because anyone possessing the key can decrypt the message, it is important to protect the key from access by unauthorized personnel.
