S/FTP is Secure FTP. Secure
FTP enhances the original FTP protocol by allowing it to run over an
encrypted connection provided by SSH or SSL, taking advantage of the
authentication and encryption features in those protocols.
Two versions of the SSH protocol
exist. The now outdated (and unsupported) SSH1226, and the newer SSH2. A variety of programs exist
for SSH2, from commercial offerings to Open SSH227.
OpenSSH and a Trojan Horse
Note that a Trojan horse was inserted in the Open SSH code distributed between July 30th and August 1, 2002. If you downloaded Open SSH in that time, you are strongly advised to check the web site.
