IV Layer 2 Data Link Layer
Several types of network equipment
operate at Layer 2 of the OSI model, the Data Link Layer.
Recall that the Data Link Layer is responsible for point-to-point communications
between devices, error control, and synchronization (flow control) of
communications. In order to implement these functions, the Data Link
layer uses the unique physical address (MAC address) of each
host on the LAN, to determine how to direct traffic around the LAN.
Devices operating at the Data Link Layer include:
- Bridge
- Switch
- Brouter
