Up until now, our primary focus has been discussing the movement of raw blocks of data, called frames, through the lower hardware layers of the OSI model. Layers 1 and 2 of the OSI model handle frame transmission, with data moving across the network in chunks (frames) whose size is determined by hardware capabilities. So, at the lowest levels, protocols are expressed in terms of the exchange of frames among hardware devices.
