One feature in help is the Troubleshooter. This works quite well in asking you a series of questions to help guide you to a solution, even if you are not quite sure what is wrong. Look at the screen example of troubleshooting a sound card.
Do not forget to look in the Control Panel at the Device Manager to begin troubleshooting a conflict or driver issue as well.
To get to the Troubleshooter, go to help then select Troubleshooting from the display window and choose the area you need help.
