PING

An IP number or NetBIOS name,can be tested by invoking the PING (PACKET INTERNET GROPER) command from a command prompt.

PING It!

Using the PING command will tell you if a TCP/IP based device is functioning.


Note: ping can be run from the command line. Go to start run then type in ping and the address to ping. The example in Figure 168 shows this request timing out meaning the destination is unreachable, and Figure 169 a request that is invalid due to an invalid IP address.
