In some situations, such as replacing a cash register with a computer to create a Point Of Sale (POS) system, space is at a premium. In these situations may call for a system board with no CPU on it. Instead all electronics are placed on cards with the system board be nothing more than a passive backplane. This also allows for simplified repair and upgrade ability.
With the physical description of what is inside the case complete for this chapter, it is time to review the components of the system board.
