Diode

One final electronic piece is the diode. Again, diodes come in many flavors. A diode lets electricity flow easily in one direction, and, offers resistance in the opposite direction.

Diodes can be used to filter out the negative swings of AC, leaving only bursts of positive voltage. Take only the positive burps of power and send these to a capacitor, and, what comes out is DC voltage.
