Hijack This

Hijack This225 is a “general browser hijacker and detector” tool. Rather than searching for specific spyware, it targets the methods used by spyware applications to infect your machine. When first run, read the warning very carefully!

Although Hijack This looks like a very small tool, it is extremely comprehensive and contains many options. It is most commonly used in Anti-Spyware forums, where people seeking help are advised to post a log from this tool to help with troubleshooting an infected system.

Hijack This will display all of the items it finds, suspicious or legitimate – no distinction is made, which is what makes this tool both powerful and dangerous! To learn more about a listed item, click on it and click the “Info on Selected Item” button. To remove items, check the box to the left of the item you want to remove and click the “Fix Checked” button.

Hijack This will also display a comprehensive list of programs that start when Windows boots up. Click the “Config” button, and click “Misc Tools” in the window that appears.

Clicking on “Generate StartupList log” will, as the text in the window says, produce a list of all the auto-starting programs and display them in Notepad.
