Selecting See basic information about your computer opens the System Properties box at the General tab as seen in Figure 243.
This shows the type and version of the operating system, who it is registered to, the manufacturer, type of computer, processor and information about the RAM.
Briefly going through the other tabs, the Computer Name tab displays the unique name of the device, whether it is a member of a Workgroup or a Domain38 and the name of the workgroup or domain. From here, you can run the Network Identification Wizard by clicking on the Network ID button or rename or join the computer to a domain by clicking on the Change button.
The Hardware tab grants access to the Add Hardware Wizard, Driver Signing, the Device Manager and Hardware Profiles.
The Advanced tab allows configuration of performance features such as visual effects, processor scheduling and memory usage, access to user profiles and Startup and Recovery. There are also buttons for accessing the Environmental Variables and Error Reporting.
The System Restore tab allocates the amount of disk space to be used to track and reverse damaging alterations to the computer.
Automatic Updates tab allows you to configure how your Windows XP operating system will receive the latest security updates, hotfixes and patches from Microsoft.
Weve seen the Remote tab before which allows configuration of Remote assistance and Remote desktop.
